It’s all about CHARACTER, isn’t it ???

Good character is taught and caught and the new DVD series Samuel L. Collins and the Search for Biblical Truths, helps you do both.   Imagine a DVD series combining the fun adventure of a Young Raiders of the Lost Ark, the high-tech gadgetry of Mission Impossible and the Scriptural conviction of Bibleman.  All of those elements are masterfully interwoven throughout Samuel L. Collins and The Search for Biblical Truths, a product line designed to reach Christian children and tweens.

Do your children have the ‘moral mustard’ – Part 2

When you last visited, my precious Ipod Touch had been reduced to ‘garbage’ and was located here….

Mom left the room and banished me to my room to think about things.  I glanced over to Katie sitting in shock and awe realizing that Mom had thrown away my life.

Yes, my life!

My music, my games, my entertainment, my GPS, my dictionary, books I was reading on it and more!  My life!  I sat wondering how this all went so wrong.  Mom mentioned something about my attitude and that if I couldn’t throw it away easily, it might be an idol.

An IDOL?

“Surely not” I thought to myself, but i was devastated by what Mom had done.  It didn’t seem fair and I felt crushed.  In fact I was down right MAD at her.

“How dare her throw away my object?

“She doesn’t have the right!”

“I’m going to talk to Dad when he gets home from his business trip.”

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m going to do!  And for a brief moment I felt better… but suddenly it dawned on me that Dad wouldn’t be back for at least three more days…. and sometime in there the garbage would be taken to the street.

Noooooooooooooo!  This is just not fair!

My mind continued to return to what my Mom had said. “Sam, if you can’t easily throw that object away it just might be an IDOL in your life.”

I spent the afternoon distracting myself with Legos.  I turned on my CD player and listened to music convinced that Mom was wrong and I was RIGHT, but I still hadn’t come up with a plan to rescue my Ipod, and the garbage can was getting fuller and fuller every hour.

As soon as I was engaged in an activity, my mind wandered back again to my Mom’s statement, “Sam, if you can’t easily throw that object away it just might be an IDOL in your life.”

An IDOL?  Not the kind that sings on the American Idol show, but the kind where you bow down and worship.  Like this guy…

An IDOL! An IDOL? an idol.

As I sat on the edge of the bed and I had to admit, for the first time, that I did worship my Ipod Touch.

  • I did think the world of it.
  • I did honor it with all my spare time.
  • And, more importantly, I was attached to it, probably way more than I should have been.

If I honestly looked at the situation  I do worship my Ipod!

Staring at the floor I gently closed my eyes and prayed.  I was wrong and I asked God to forgive me for placing an item above my relationship with Him, my mother, my sister and my schoolwork.

I found Mom and asked if we could talk and I shared my feelings.  When Mom and Dad bought me the Ipod Touch I felt invincible. I thought I had my parents wrapped around my finger and that I could do or say anything I wanted.  I thought too highly of myself, and I thought too highly of my Ipod Touch.  I realized that I had plugged myself in to a world of never-ending news, music, and entertainment.  I apologized and told Mom that I was glad she got my attention for I felt lost, but free…

I want to worship only one thing- God!

Signing off,

Sam

Why Math seems so IMPOSSIBLE…

In the beginning Math was easy.

I remember my first math workbook filled with color pictures of balls and clown faces and apples to count.

It was cute, and I was a satisfied little boy!

But then I grew up and Mom pulled the bait and switch.  I don’t know HOW it happened or WHEN it happened, but slowly she replaced my shiny red and green apples with X and Y and Z and I’m not happy about it.

So, I’m boycotting until someone tells me WHERE I’m going to use this:

Or at least until Math class tomorrow…

Signing off with math book in hand,

Sam

Fan Mail…..

“Boys couldn’t wait to watch them (the videos), so we already watched Singapore. 🙂 They loved the codes and the fact that Samuel does geocaching (which we do too!). Add in that Middle kid is also a Samuel. It was fun to watch.” – Another happy Mom!

Schooling: sometimes it’s just hard work

I’ve been working all summer on math: fractions, decimals, and percentages.  Sometimes I get it, and sometimes it just seems so ‘hard’.  Am I suppose to add, subtract, flip, divide or reduce then multiply?  Right-side up, upside down, flipping and twisting; what am I suppose to do with all these numbers?

Who made this stuff up, and why do I need to study it?

I didn’t think I needed to know until I began making pens on my lathe.  God has made numbers complicated yet simple at same time (and thank goodness for the men who produced rulers); there are whole numbers and then smaller parts called fractions.  When I measure wood, it’s not always a whole number, so I use fractions, too.

And, just when I think fractions can’t get any smaller I’m reminded of my chemistry lesson in atoms and subatoms… and smaller and smaller the pieces get.  I wonder how small the smallest number is?  How big is the biggest number?  Only God knows (and that’s okay) because I’m still trying to decode all the others inbetween.

Well, back to math lessons…

Signing off,

Sam

In San Diego this weekend for the Do Hard Things Conference

Hi everyone,

I’m in San Diego, CA this morning getting ready for the Do Hard Things Conference.  Have you ever heard of this conference?  It’s a wonderful day spent listening to Alex and Brett Harris, as they expose the TRUTH of adolescence and how God wants us to prepare for Kingdom work.

Here’s the link: www.therebelution.com if you want to join me.  I’ll be running the texting and Audience Response technology; come visit me in the A/V booth.

See you there!

For the Glory of God,

Samuel L. Collins

Hi and WELCOME!

Hi and WELCOME, I’m Samuel L. Collins and you’ve landed on MY Search for Biblical Truths website.  Here you’ll find a bunch of things to do and see.

Let’s take a look around the top of the homepage and I’ll describe what’s behind each button-

ADVENTURE: This is a great part of the website; it lets you know where I’ve traveled around the world and the Biblical Truths I’ve learned.

ACTIVITIES:  This is where all the action happens…

LEARN ABOUT GEOCACHING:  One of my favorite things is Geocaching; finding treasure located all over the world and leaving my special coins.  Check here often to discover where they are  located- one might be by your house…

CONTESTS: Yup, that’s pretty easy.  It’s all about contests; Cipher contests, GPS contests, Bible contests, and many more.  We’ll load up the prizes: t-shirts, DVDs, ciphers and neat gadgets and even CASH…. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled on that page.

IN THE WORD: We’re going to study God’s Word, post videos on GodTube and encourage each other.  I’ve have contests, comments and TOGETHER we’ll grow stronger in the Lord!  I hope you will join me there.

SAM’S SHOP:  Being a Christian Warrior is tough work and I use LOTS of gadgets to get me  through.  You might find something in there that will help you.

BLOG: On my blog I’ll post videos and pictures of our travels around the world, new gadgets I come across, and personal stories from my adventures.

EVENTS:  I’m always out and about.  As I travel around, I hope you’ll come visit me.  Maybe we can go geocaching together.
