Hey guys,

As you know from my last post I’m in California (Los Angeles to be exact) working with my Dad.  Hollywood has been fun: we’ve done some quick sightseeing and hit the hotel pool to cool down, but alas, I still have work to do.  I have to go GEOCACHING and place that Travel Bug I found in Maryland a few months ago.

Well, here is my Geocaching video roll: Hope you enjoy!

Geocaching in Virginia: What’s in the ammo box?

GEOCAHCING is like having a birthday!

Every time we go geocaching, I’m excitedly thinking, “What’s in the box?  What’s in the box?”

It reminds me of Blue’s Clues:

Blue's clues

Who remembers Blue’s Clue?

Present time, present time. Open it up and see what’s inside…

Well, on my last Geocaching adventure I found some neat stuff. Let’s see what’s inside…

See I told you it was neat!

Sam

Geocaching: What is it? (part 1/5)

Many of my friends wish they could tag along on my adventures around the world….

Samuel L. Collins fiilms in Bali

Hey, wait for me???

and I must admit it’s amazing to travel to the places I’ve been, but Geocaching is a great adventure of it’s own.  And it happens in every corner of the world, so even if the nearest State Park is the farthest from home you’ll ever get, you too CAN have your own FAMILY ADVENTURE….

So, in honor of SUMMER and VACATIONS, I’m going to write a series of blog posts that describe the “how-to’s” and “Joys” of GEOCACHING…

Geocaching: What is it? (part 1)

So, what is this family-fun activity?  It’s part ‘treasure-hunting’ part ‘scavenger hunting’ and part ‘hiking’.

Family geocaching

Doesn’t geocaching look fun?

Small and large ‘treasure boxes’ called CACHES or GEOCACHES

Here's what Geocaching containers look like...

Geocaching containers come in a variety of sizes and shapes

are hidden ALL over the world.  Yes, that’s right ALL over the world (over 100 countries including America), which means that no matter where YOU live- there’s probably a CACHE near you. 🙂

How many ‘treasure boxes’ are located around the world?  Around 2 MILLION.  Wow, that’s quite a LOT of treasure to go find!

Old fashion map with Treasure Box

Not like the pirates….

But the difference is we’re not PIRATES…. and we use modern technology!

How do we find the Treasure?

Modern technology has allowed us to move beyond paper and pen (thank goodness) and today’s Treasures are monitored by latitude and longitude in the world of Geopositioning technology (think Satellites in outer space beaming around information…).

Couple looking at Geocaching GPS

Hey, this way to the TREASURE BOX!

Each GPS (just like the one your mom uses in the car to find the grocery store) is a latitude/longitude mapping program that allows us to move from one location (home) to the next (the TREASURE box or cache)!

If we put in our home coordinates, we can use this technology to find ALL the CACHES in our area!  It really is that simple.  The GPS guides us to the CACHE and we scoop up all the loot!  Well, not really, but we’ll cover geocaching rules later.

So, are you interested?  I sure hope so.  Come back next Tuesday and we’ll cover Part 2: Getting Started.  I’ll cover topics such as:

* What you need to get started

* Where to find the GPS coordinates for the CACHES? and

* provide some links (by state) for more fun.

See you next week!

Signing off,

Sam

Kentucky’s Creation Museum episode is finally done….

Hi ho, the bells all toll, the episode is DONE…

It’s been a long time and a LOT of hard work, but our NEXT episode was completed yesterday!

Samuel L. Collins and the Search for Biblical Truths- Kentucky episode

Sam and Buddy Davis pose for our cover art for the Search for Biblical Truths television show shot on location at the AIG Creation Museum

It’s a fun episode about finding an old bone (Katie actually trips over it) and us solving the mystery of WHO’s bone it is.  SOCOM finds me in the middle of Kentucky and delivers my first clue and then the ADVENTURE begins.

It’s an all-creation, all-Kentucky episode that lands us at the AIG Creation Museum with Buddy Davis.

Geocaching can be hazardous… with Samuel L Collins

Dad and I were Geocaching today and happened upon this big fellow.  Can you spot him?

Insert video here… (okay, so I told Mom I won’t give up the video but here’s what happened.  Daddy and I were walking down the road and had to step into some pretty tall grass toward the cache location.  There were bugs flying and thick weeds everywhere (not my favorite thing) so we tried to hurry as much as possible.  Just as we were leaving we stepped back out onto the concrete and a HUGE snack began slithering in the grass.  I grabbed my video camera and recorded it as I moved quickly past of out his striking zone. )

Geocaching Lesson of the Week: Always remember, wear closed shoes, jeans and bring a stick (just in case) you meet up with one of these on your next adventure.  Be safe out there!

Sam

Geocaching and beyond…

Want to go geocaching but have no clue where to go? At Geocaching.com you can enter your Address or Zip code and find the nearest ones in your neighborhood.

Why speaking of having one in your neighborhood, a few days ago my family and I discovered that there was one only a few minutes away, so we grabbed the GPS and set of to find a brand new Geobox.

We had previously visited this Geobox without the GPS and did not succeed, so this time we thought we would be smart and take the GPS.

After about twenty five minutes we located the Geobox under a post in the Bridge that leads to nowhere.  Sounds like a Government Job or the title of the Geocache, “Back Up Plan.” Oh, that’s why is called a “Back up Plan” because you go nowhere.   You’ll have to see the pictures to believe this fine structure…

Here is the link to the Geocache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a4049fda-632a-43a8-99e9-9edc0f432eef.

Remember: You’ll need to become a member to Geocaching.com to see the coordinates or you could just email me at Sam@searchforbiblicaltruths.com,
or better yet join Geocaching.com and email Me!      I hope you enjoy Geocaching with your family.

Signing off for this post, see you soon.
